The liberal media is at it again, attacking a Republican for not being corrupt! Newly minted House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) is now the subject of criticism from outlets like The Daily Beast because he hasn’t used his time in Congress to make himself rich. But Congressman Matt Gaetz (R-FL) isn’t having any of it. In fact, he publicly slammed a journalist from The Daily Beast for smugly pointing out that Speaker Johnson has a modest mortgage and “doesn’t have any retirement savings, own a single stock, or have any assets at all. He has less than $5,000 in his bank account.”

Gaetz took to social media to defend Speaker Johnson, mocking the liberal media’s obsession with corruption. “The Daily Beast is furious that @SpeakerJohnson isn’t rich, corrupt or rich from being corrupt,” Gaetz wrote. “He doesn’t have shady business deals. He doesn’t trade stocks as a congressman. Cry more, I guess?” Gaetz’s sarcasm was on full display with the addition of a shrugging emoji.
It’s no secret that members of Congress often see their net worth increase while serving in office. It’s a trend that applies to politicians from both sides of the aisle. However, it seems that when a Republican doesn’t actively seek personal enrichment, the liberal media can’t help but speculate about their motives. The Daily Beast, in particular, seems intent on suggesting that Speaker Johnson has a nefarious plan to become a wealthy lobbyist after leaving office. They even went so far as to interview “experts” who suggested Speaker Johnson could be opening himself up to “influence buying.”
To make matters worse, Democrats are now attempting to fundraise off of Speaker Johnson’s election by spreading fear and misinformation. They are sending out fundraising appeals suggesting Johnson will try to repeal LGBT rights or further erode abortion protections. It’s clear that the left is desperate to hold on to power and will stop at nothing, including spreading baseless accusations, to achieve their goals.
Despite all the attacks, Speaker Johnson has already proven his worth. He is delivering results and producing record-breaking fundraising numbers for Republicans. His leadership is providing incumbents in swing districts with the resources they need to win tough reelection battles. It’s clear that Speaker Johnson’s integrity and dedication to serving the American people are unmatched, and that is something the liberal media just can’t understand.
