In a move that’s sure to ruffle some feathers, the state of California has taken a divisive step by becoming the very first state to use taxpayer money to cover transgender surgeries for illegal immigrants. Yup, you read that right. The state, run by Democratic politicians, has decided to dip into the wallets of hard-working citizens to fund surgeries for those who are in the country illegally. How’s that for a slap in the face to law-abiding Americans?
The state’s Medi-Cal program will now foot the bill for around 700,000 illegal immigrants, ages 26-49, to undergo gender surgeries. This all comes after the Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown, with his lofty ideas, signed a law back in 2015 allowing illegal immigrant children to qualify for Medi-Cal. Then, to no one’s surprise, current Gov. Gavin Newsom expanded it to adult migrants four years later. It’s like they just can’t help but find new ways to spend other people’s hard-earned money.

According to a state memo, “Gender affirming care is a covered Medi-Cal benefit when medically necessary,” and requests for such care should be from specialists who are experienced in providing culturally competent care to transgender and gender diverse individuals. In other words, the state is all in on shelling out cash for these surgeries, under the guise of being medically necessary and culturally sensitive. Sure, let’s just ignore the fact that this is completely unfair to the tax-paying citizens who have their own medical expenses to worry about.
But wait, it gets better. Newsom’s office had the audacity to justify this with the statement that the expanded health coverage was deserved for all state residents “regardless of income or immigration status.” Can you believe the nerve of these politicians? They want you to foot the bill for non-citizens, while your own family might be struggling to afford healthcare. Unbelievable.
Of course, all of this is going to come at a hefty cost. California is set to fork over a jaw-dropping $1.2 billion for the first six months, and it’s only expected to increase to around $3.1 billion per year. Let that sink in for a moment. That’s billions of dollars that could be spent on improving the lives of legal residents or, hey, maybe even helping out our deserving veterans. But no, instead it’s being funneled into surgeries for those who aren’t even supposed to be here in the first place.
The cherry on top of this circus of absurdity is the fact that rapper Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson III pointed out the sheer lunacy of the situation, echoing the sentiment of many Americans. He simply stated, “they don’t even give veterans health insurance.” He’s got a point. It’s a sad state of affairs when our country can’t even prioritize the brave men and women who fought for our freedom, but somehow has the funds to cover surgeries for illegal immigrants.
It’s mind-boggling how out of touch these politicians are with the everyday struggles of hard-working Americans. Instead of addressing real issues and taking care of their own citizens, they’re busy patting themselves on the back for dishing out benefits to those who aren’t even in the country legally. It’s as though they’re living in a fantasy world of unicorns and rainbows, meanwhile, the rest of us are left to pick up the tab.
