Despite the tough road he’s traveled, Keith sounded optimistic during the podcast appearance, expressing gratitude for the support of his fans. “I’m doing really good. It’s been a tough two years, but I think I’m turning a corner. I don’t know if you’re ever done with it [cancer], but I’m trying to be,” he said. The country star described his return to the spotlight as “weird” at first, after a year away from the music business. “And this is my 30th year in the [country music] business, so it was really weird just sitting here with your handcuffs on,” he remarked.
Keith, known for his conservative leanings, shared an anecdote about his interaction with Clint Eastwood, after appearing in the legendary actor’s film, “The Mule,” in 2019. Keith recalled Eastwood’s advice, saying, “Several years ago the first event I played with him… I [asked], ‘What keeps you going at your age?’ He said, ‘I try to get up every day and be productive — not let that old man in. So I came home and said, ‘I’m going to write him a song. I didn’t know I was going to have to live those words in a few years.”
Regarding his ongoing battle with cancer, Keith acknowledged the ups and downs, stating, “You get good days and, you know, you’re up and down, up and down. It’s always zero to 60 and 60 to zero, but I feel good today.” He also expressed determination to keep performing as long as his health continues to trend positively, affirming that he is still working on regaining his vocal strength.
In the face of adversity, Toby Keith’s resilience and determination to continue bringing his conservative message to the stage is an inspiration to all his supporters. With his return to the limelight, he remains a beacon of hope and strength, showcasing the indomitable spirit of a true American patriot.
