The Chinese state propaganda outlet, Global Times, is apparently gloating over the recent Colorado Supreme Court ruling to remove former President Donald Trump from the 2024 presidential primary ballot. They are using this opportunity to criticize America’s “chaotic judicial system” and portray the law as a “political weapon.”
Now, let’s dig deeper into this ruling. The Colorado Supreme Court claims that Trump engaged in insurrection for his remarks prior to the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021. However, it’s worth noting that Trump has not been indicted on insurrection charges or accused of any relevant criminal activity. The court seems to have applied a never-before-used provision of the Fourteenth Amendment to come to this conclusion. It’s no wonder people are questioning the legal logic behind this ruling.

But this isn’t the first time Trump has faced legal challenges in various states. Fortunately for him, he has won all of them outside of Colorado. However, now authorities in California and Maine are considering similar action to keep him off the ballot. It’s clear that there are some people out there who are determined to prevent Trump from running for president again.
Of course, Biden couldn’t resist chiming in on this matter. He came out in support of the Colorado Supreme Court ruling, claiming that Trump “certainly supported an insurrection.” It’s ironic how Biden, who claims to champion democracy, is so quick to support a ruling that limits someone’s political rights before they have even been indicted or convicted of a crime.
While the Global Times is busy criticizing America’s supposedly “chaotic” judicial system, they conveniently ignore the lack of due process and meaningful legal defense in China’s system. In China, the Communist Party actively persecutes political dissidents and uses the legal system to silence them. It’s laughable how they have the audacity to condemn the disputes surrounding Trump’s presidential campaign when Chinese citizens don’t even have the right to vote for their president.
The Global Times goes on to predict that if Trump were to win the 2024 presidential election, the “procedural justice” of the US would be difficult to maintain and the country could collapse. This is clearly an attempt by the Chinese state mouthpiece to sow division and undermine American democracy. But we won’t be fooled. We know that Trump has a strong base of supporters who believe in his vision for America and are not swayed by baseless attacks.
In the end, this Colorado ruling may actually backfire on those who are trying to keep Trump off the ballot. It could galvanize his supporters and strengthen their support for him. As one alleged Chinese regime-approved “expert” put it, this ruling may reinforce the perception among Trump’s supporters that he is a victim. And we all know that nothing fires up Trump’s base like seeing him being unfairly attacked.
Overall, it’s clear that there are forces at play that are determined to prevent Trump from running for president again. But Trump has a strong following and polls consistently show him leading Biden in a potential general election showdown. The more they try to keep him off the ballot, the more it seems to strengthen his support. So, let the games begin!
