CVS, Walgreens Sell Abortions: Morality Down the Aisle

The liberal left’s push for more widespread access to the abortion pill, mifepristone, has reached a new level of absurdity as major pharmacy chains CVS and Walgreens announced plans to start dispensing it in their stores this month. This decision comes just before the Supreme Court is set to hear a case regarding the drug’s approval by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), adding even more controversy to an already contentious issue.

CVS and Walgreens, in their infinite wisdom, have outlined their intention to start dispensing mifepristone under FDA guidelines, gradually introducing the controversial pills across states where it is legal for pharmacies to sell the drug directly to patients. Walgreens, never an entity to shy away from controversy, eagerly shared its completion of the FDA certification process to dispense mifepristone and expects to begin handing them out within a week. This all comes with a statement about how they plan to ensure “quality, safety, and privacy” for their precious patients. How touching.

CVS, on the other hand, is acting like they’re doing everyone a favor by delaying their rollout “in the weeks ahead,” starting with Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Amy Thibault, a CVS spokeswoman, had the audacity to claim they are “working with manufacturers and suppliers” to secure the medication before dispensing it in any of their pharmacies. Oh, how noble of you, CVS.

Let’s not forget the disturbing mechanism of action of mifepristone, the first pill in a chemical abortion process, which essentially blocks a woman’s progesterone receptors to stop fetal growth. This is followed by the second pill, misoprostol, taken within 24 to 48 hours of mifepristone to induce uterine contractions and expel the fetus. It’s a gruesome process that these pharmacies are now facilitating, all in the name of so-called “reproductive rights.”

Of course, this entire debacle wouldn’t be complete without a courtroom drama. In 2023, Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas ruled in favor of a suit against the FDA’s original approval of mifepristone. However, the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals swooped in to partially overturn the decision, keeping the drug’s original FDA approval but reinstating regulations that effectively banned mail-order access to mifepristone and required in-person doctor’s visits. Now, the Supreme Court is set to hear oral arguments on this matter, with the fate of mifepristone hanging in the balance.

In the end, as these pharmacy chains jump on the abortion bandwagon, it’s a stark reminder of the moral decay that continues to plague our society. Since when has it become acceptable for major corporations to actively participate in the destruction of innocent lives? CVS and Walgreens might as well hang a sign on their doors that reads, “Abortion pills now available! Come on in and end a life today!” It’s a disgrace, and every right-minded American should be up in arms about it.
