Former Democratic Rep. Tim Ryan of Ohio took a swing at President Joe Biden, bashing his decision to halt natural gas exports just to impress some tree-hugging environmentalists. Ryan, a rare voice of reason from the Democratic camp, called out Biden’s move as a big mistake. On Bill Maher’s show, Ryan pointed out the obvious – that natural gas is a massive 40% chunk of our energy mix here in the good ol’ U.S. of A. Biden, in his infinite wisdom, seems to have missed the memo on this one.

Ryan rightly argued that by cutting off natural gas exports, Biden is not only betraying the working-class voters in states like Pennsylvania, where natural gas is a big deal, but also sabotaging the progress the U.S. has made in reducing carbon emissions. Thanks to natural gas replacing coal, the U.S. has been a global leader in carbon reduction. But Biden, in his attempt to win over the environmentalist left, is willing to throw all that progress out the window.
Republicans, showing some spine as usual, stepped in to try and lift Biden’s nonsensical pause on LNG export terminals. Their bill, passed with bipartisan support, is now sitting at the Democrat-run Senate’s doorstep, waiting for some common sense to kick in. And the facts don’t lie – the U.S. has been dominating the natural gas export game, leading the charge in the global market. By shutting down these exports, Biden’s only making things easier for our competitors abroad, not to mention hurting our own economy.
In the end, it’s clear that Biden’s decision is not just bad for American energy independence and jobs, but also for the environment he claims to care so much about. Halting natural gas exports won’t save the planet, it’ll just make other countries richer at our expense. Let’s hope the Senate has the good sense to undo Biden’s blunder before it’s too late.
