Democrat Rep. Pramila Jayapal and MSNBC host Joy Reid have once again displayed shocking insensitivity—this time laughing over the horrifying story of an illegal immigrant who raped a 13-year-old girl. The two progressive darlings reached a new low even for their abysmal standards.
During a recent interview, Jayapal brushed aside the tragic crime, arrogantly dismissing it as “fear-mongering” by conservatives. Reid chimed in, claiming that people think illegal immigrants commit more crimes simply because of how certain news outlets report incidents. She even went as far as to juxtapose network banners: while MSNBC and CNN focused on Biden’s announcement of legal protections for undocumented spouses, Fox News dared to report the gut-wrenching news of a migrant arrested for raping a young girl.

Jayapal found the whole conversation amusing, breaking into a fit of chuckles while blaming opposition to illegal immigration on “economic insecurity.” She had the audacity to accuse Republicans of lying about undocumented aliens, maintaining that they essentially keep the U.S. economy afloat. Reid added her two cents, suggesting that the economic insecurity narrative turns people against immigrants whether they benefit the country or not.
Christian Inga, the illegal immigrant in question, assaulted a 13-year-old girl in a New York City park. This Ecuadorian criminal not only raped the girl but also tied up her and a male companion, stealing their cell phones. On the run for several days, he was eventually apprehended by a group of Good Samaritans who beat him up and detained him until the police arrived.
Instead of showing some basic decency and addressing the gravity of the crime, these two progressives used it as an opportunity to mock serious reporting and push their tired economic arguments. It’s a textbook example of how detached from reality and morality some liberal elites have become.
