Governor Ron DeSantis is making moves to “reload” his presidential campaign, and he’s not holding back when it comes to taking on the mainstream media. In a recent interview with NBC’s Dasha Burns, DeSantis fearlessly fact-checked her false pro-abortion talking points. When asked if he would veto a federal abortion ban, DeSantis unapologetically stated that he would support pro-life policies as a pro-life president. He also made it clear that he wouldn’t allow the Democratic Party to override pro-life protections and endorse infanticide.

But Burns, displaying her ignorance and activism, interrupted the governor and claimed that his statements were a misrepresentation of the truth. She argued that only 1.3 percent of abortions occur at 21 weeks or higher, completely missing the point DeSantis was making. His comments were about the Democratic Party’s extreme stance on abortion, not about specific statistics.
NBC's Dasha Burns, pants on fire, telling @RonDeSantis that "[t]here’s no evidence of Democrats pushing for abortions up until" birth & "there's no indication" they are "pushing for that."
Let's start with states. Colorado, Maine, & NY have expanded abortion access in recent yrs pic.twitter.com/Vw6vicOXfr

Here's Colorado from last year (h/t: @xan_desanctis): "The law appears to guarantee a right to any form of abortion at any stage of pregnancy for any reason[.]"https://t.co/iYd8mcbaN0

And here was New York in 2019: "The new law, signed by Governor Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday, safeguards rights laid out in Roe v. Wade and other court rulings, including a provision permitting late-term abortions when a woman's health is endangered." https://t.co/iFr35staSq

P.S. Minnesota also has a new law (h/t: @varadmehta for flagging this): "It establishes that 'every individual has a fundamental right to make autonomous decisions about the individual’s own reproductive health' including abortion and contraception." https://t.co/OljWKfdfPJ

For 2 minutes, Colorado’s Democrat Governor refuses to say whether a law he just signed allows for abortion until birth.
Then he DEFENDS third-trimester abortions. pic.twitter.com/fhuNpZGrv8

All this to say NBC's Dasha Burns was CLEARLY trying to make up for her John Fetterman interview last year, which nearly caused him to lose the #PASen race.

DeSantis stood his ground, pushing back against Burns and highlighting the Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA) as an example of the Democratic Party’s agenda. The WHPA goes beyond codifying Roe v. Wade and instead expands abortion access throughout all nine months of pregnancy, without any legal limits. While the WHPA failed to pass in the Senate, it did receive support from the Democratic-controlled House.
Examples of Democratic-led states expanding abortion rights are abundant, as states like Maine, Colorado, Minnesota, and New York have shown. These states allow for abortions up until birth, far surpassing the limits that Burns mentioned. In fact, only three Republican-governed states out of the total list of states and D.C. allow for late-term abortions. Governor Jared Polis of Colorado even misled the public about a bill that allows for abortions up until birth and defended third-trimester abortions.
Burns may have correctly stated that only 1.3 percent of abortions occur after 21 weeks, but this figure of approximately 11,210 abortions is still significant. And let’s not forget the gruesome methods used in late-term abortions, such as dismemberment or inducing a fatal heart attack in the baby.
DeSantis also rightly pointed out Democrats’ support for infanticide. Despite Republican efforts to pass the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, Democrats refused to vote in favor, even when they controlled the Senate during previous sessions of Congress. Nancy Pelosi, who claims to be a devout Catholic, refused to bring the bill to a vote in the House, and Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has made it clear that he won’t allow it to be voted on. Governors like Ralph Northam of Virginia, Steve Bullock of Montana, and Roy Cooper of North Carolina have also shown their disregard for protecting children in failed abortion attempts.
It’s no wonder that Dana Bash of CNN, displaying her own ignorance, claimed that she hasn’t spoken to a single Democrat who supports abortion until birth. Maybe she should talk to Senator John Fetterman, who has been a vocal supporter of the WHPA and believes there should be no restrictions on abortions. Or perhaps she should reflect on her own previous interview with Fetterman, which received criticism for ignoring his health concerns following a stroke.
The mainstream media continues to downplay the radical abortion agenda of the Democratic Party, while conservatives like DeSantis fight to protect the unborn and expose the truth. We need leaders who aren’t afraid to fact-check false narratives and defend pro-life values.
