Billionaire entrepreneur and tech titan Elon Musk caused quite the stir recently when he paid a visit to Israel to survey the damage caused by Hamas’s recent attack on the country. The visit, which included a sit-down with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, was aired on X, a platform that Musk now has in his back pocket. In classic Musk fashion, he didn’t hold back in expressing his shock at the devastation caused by the attack, calling it “jarring” during a live conversation on X Spaces.
But Musk’s trip wasn’t all talk. He also took the time to visit the Libstein family residence and learn about the tragic death of Ofir Libstein, who lost his life in the crossfire during the attack. Additionally, Musk was briefed on the release of 4-year-old Abigail Edan, a dual citizen of Israel and the United States, from Hamas captivity. The young girl’s freedom came after a temporary ceasefire was reached, marking a small victory in the ongoing conflict.

With his characteristic flair for the dramatic, Musk announced that X would be donating revenue generated from the war in Gaza to hospitals in Israel, as well as to the Red Cross and Red Crescent in Gaza. He made it clear that X would keep a close eye on how the funds were being used, ensuring that both organizations received their share. This move by Musk came on the heels of major companies like Apple and Disney boycotting X over concerns about their ads being associated with right-wing content.
For someone who’s no stranger to controversy himself, Musk’s visit and subsequent actions have prompted both applause and criticism. As Israel continues to grapple with the aftermath of the attack and work towards dismantling Hamas, Musk’s involvement adds a new layer of intrigue to an already complex situation. Love him or hate him, you can’t deny that Elon Musk knows how to make an entrance and shake things up. And with X in his corner, who knows what other surprises he has up his sleeve.
