House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) has officially thrown his cowboy hat into the ring (or, more accurately, onto the MAGA hat rack) by endorsing former President Donald Trump for the 2024 Republican primary. Yeehaw! This means that Trump has now been endorsed by the top four House Republicans, which is sure to ruffle some Democratic feathers.

In a statement acquired by the Washington Examiner, Emmer made it clear that he’s not about to let those sneaky Democrats pull a fast one and keep President Joe Biden in the driver’s seat. Emmer believes it’s high time for Republicans to band together behind Trump and his clear dominance in the GOP. After all, who wouldn’t want to hop on the Trump train?
This isn’t Emmer’s first rodeo with Trump. He also endorsed the former president in both the 2016 and 2020 presidential races. When Emmer was chair of the National Republican Congressional Committee, he and Trump teamed up to stick it to Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats, with Trump making it rain campaign cash to help the GOP retake the House. Trump’s support was like a bolt of lightning, electrifying Republicans and sending shivers down the spines of Democrats.
However, not everyone was rooting for Emmer to become speaker after the departure of former California GOP Rep. Kevin McCarthy. Some of Trump’s pals weren’t keen on giving Emmer the top spot, despite his unwavering support for the former president. Ultimately, Emmer saw the writing on the wall and decided to mosey on out of the race, a move that Trump reportedly took credit for. It seems like the former president’s presence still looms large over the GOP.
With Emmer joining House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, Speaker Mike Johnson, and House Republican Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik in endorsing Trump, it’s becoming crystal clear that the Republican elite are hitching their wagons to the Trump express. According to the RealClearPolitics polling average, Trump is galloping ahead with a 51-point lead over his closest competition, Gov. Ron DeSantis and former Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley. The Trump train is full steam ahead, and the GOP establishment seems more than happy to punch their tickets and ride it all the way to the White House. Giddy up!
