Timothy Thibault, a former senior FBI official, recently spoke before Congress to defend himself against accusations of misconduct and political bias. Thibault vehemently denied using his position to promote a political agenda and referred to the whistleblower claims against him as “extremely serious.”
During his testimony, Thibault clarified several claims made against him. He stated that while he did close a Hunter Biden-related source file in October 2020, he did not act alone and had little involvement in the case, which was being handled by the FBI’s Baltimore Field Office. Thibault explained that he made the decision to close the source file after consulting with other agents, supervisors, and his own boss. He also noted that the source file could have been reopened by the Baltimore office if necessary.
Thibault also addressed allegations that he failed to follow up on Tony Bobulinski, Hunter Biden’s former business partner and a key witness. Thibault stated that he had a phone conversation with Bobulinski’s attorney, Stefan Passantino, and made efforts to ensure that any relevant information was turned over to the Baltimore Field Office.

One of the claims against Thibault involved his social media activity, which was accused of being politically biased. Thibault expressed regret over his social media posts, stating that they became a distraction for the FBI and resulted in false allegations of bias impacting his work. He emphasized that he had always taken care to separate his personal beliefs from his work at the bureau.
Lastly, Thibault addressed reports that he was forced to resign from the FBI. He stated that he voluntarily resigned at the end of August and that no one asked him to leave. He also refuted claims that he was escorted out of his office on his last day.
Overall, Thibault’s testimony aimed to set the record straight and counter the allegations made against him. He emphasized his commitment to his work at the FBI and his dedication to pursuing cases of government corruption.
