Fulton County DA Fani Willis Found on Bogus Voter Roll at Trump Tower

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis says someone tried to register her to vote in New York — and not just anywhere, but at Trump Tower. The New York City Board of Elections canceled the registration as likely fraudulent, and Willis says the form listed the wrong birthdate, a forged signature and even the wrong party. It’s a small episode with big lessons about how we run elections.

What Fani Willis says happened

Willis told Channel 2 investigative reporter Mark Winne that she got a notice from New York saying a registration in her name had been flagged and canceled. The application, she says, listed her as a Republican living at Trump Tower, included a bogus birthdate and carried a forged signature. Willis says she did not submit or sign the form and is working with prosecutors in New York to see whether criminal charges should follow.

How the New York City Board of Elections handled it

The NYC Board of Elections reviewed the paperwork and canceled the registration after concluding it was likely fraudulent. Board officials told Willis that, according to their records, no one used that registration to cast a ballot. They also noted that people attempting to vote there would have to provide ID or proof of residence — a safeguard that stopped this episode from turning into a stolen vote.

Why this matters — and why voter ID is still the smart fix

Some will laugh and call this a prank. Fine. But pranks that try to create fake registrations are not harmless. This case shows how easy it can be to file a bogus application and how messy the aftermath can be — identity theft, bogus records, and wasted resources for election officials and prosecutors. Voter-ID requirements at the polls are about stopping someone from turning a fake registration into a real vote. If you care about clean elections, you should want real checks when someone tries to cast a ballot.

Reality check and a simple, common-sense ask

To be fair, experts say in-person voter-impersonation at the polls is rare. Registration errors and mischief are more common. That doesn’t mean we ignore the problem. A plain, nationwide standard for verifying identity at registration and at the polls would cut down on fraud, protect honest voters, and save courts and election boards from chasing jokers who think it’s funny to put public officials at Trump Tower. If politicians on the left suddenly notice the need for identity checks when it happens to them, maybe it’s time the rest of us stop arguing and put basic safeguards in place.
