The Senate’s immigration plan has stirred up some serious trouble among Republican lawmakers. Senator John Cornyn from Texas ain’t too happy about it. In fact, he’s got “serious concerns” about the whole thing. And boy, oh boy, he’s not afraid to let everyone know it. He’s been cheering on Senator James Lankford from Oklahoma during the negotiations, but now that the bill is out, he’s doing a complete 180 and raising questions about the plan. It’s a real head-scratcher, folks.
You see, Cornyn ain’t the only one feeling the heat over this immigration mess. Speaker Mike Johnson is saying it’s even worse than they thought. Yikes! Can you imagine? That’s enough to make any right-leaning lawmaker break out in a cold sweat. And let’s not forget about the Senate GOP leader replacement game. Cornyn’s trying to keep his name in the mix, and he’s not going to let this immigration plan slide without making some noise.

Now, let’s talk about Senators John Barrasso and John Thune. Barrasso, he’s not holding back either. He’s been critical of this whole shebang from the get-go and is expected to stand with the majority of Republicans in opposition. As for Thune, well, he was all supportive during the negotiations, but now that the cat’s out of the bag, who knows where he stands. It’s like a game of political musical chairs, and the music just stopped.
And don’t even get me started on Mitch McConnell. He’s been Lankford’s biggest cheerleader, and folks are counting on him to back the deal. But hold your horses, because over in the House of Representatives, Speaker Johnson is making it crystal clear that this bill is dead in the water. It’s a classic case of political tug-of-war, and the Republicans are pulling with all their might to keep this immigration plan from seeing the light of day.
