It looks like Hunter Biden’s legal troubles are far from over. After his team accused the Department of Justice of reneging on a plea deal, Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss set the record straight. According to court documents, the plea agreement was never finalized because Hunter Biden chose to plead not guilty during a hearing in July. The proposed diversion agreement was also not approved by U.S. Probation at that time.
Now, the Department of Justice is revealing that both parties had the opportunity to propose changes to the agreements after the hearing. Hunter Biden’s defense counsel proposed changes, but the government did not believe they were in the best interests of the United States. Counterproposals were offered, but ultimately rejected by Hunter Biden. With the parties unable to reach an agreement, the government officially withdrew its proposed plea and diversion agreements.

It’s clear that Hunter Biden’s decision to plead not guilty derailed any possibility of a plea deal. This means he will now have to face trial for the charges against him, which include two tax misdemeanors and entry into a gun diversion program. The fact that the plea deal fell apart after the judge questioned the broad immunity contained in it raises concerns about the fairness and legality of the proposed agreement. It’s important that justice is served and that all individuals, regardless of their last name, are held accountable for their actions.
