Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota recently made an audacious claim that she warned President Joe Biden about the vital importance of the Muslim vote in his successful 2020 election and insisted he should heed their concerns about the Israel-Hamas conflict as the 2024 election approaches. The congresswoman, a staunch member of the progressive “Squad,” boldly declared in an interview with WCCO that she had candidly informed the president that he needs to reassess his support for Israel in the conflict, emphasizing the distressing “images of young children’s bodies.”

Omar dramatized the Muslim community’s role in swinging the election to Biden, asserting that they played a pivotal role in key states and that young people were instrumental in securing his victory. She admonished the president to take heed of these voices and recognize the heartbreak and desolation felt by the people. She emphasized the urgent need for an end to the tragic images of young children’s bodies and urged for support to terminate the strife.
This impassioned plea from the Minnesota Democrat coincides with mounting contemplations within Muslim groups in crucial swing states to campaign against Biden due to his stance on Israel. A campaign dubbed “#AbandonBiden” has emerged, aiming to oppose the president’s reelection in states like Michigan, Minnesota, Arizona, Wisconsin, Florida, Georgia, Nevada, and Pennsylvania over this particular issue.
It is worth noting that in the 2020 election, President Biden garnered a substantial 69% of the Muslim vote, dwarfing former President Donald Trump’s 17%, as reported by an exit poll conducted by the Council on American-Islamic Relations at the time.
Furthermore, not only Rep. Omar but also other members of the “Squad,” particularly Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, have launched scathing critiques against President Biden for his stance on the Israel-Hamas conflict. Tlaib went as far as accusing Biden of supporting what she boldly labeled as “ethnic cleansing” carried out by Israel.
