Kamala Harris Calls for Civility Amid Blame for Inciting Violence Against Trump

Vice President Kamala Harris has taken to the airwaves, urging for “civil dialogue” in the wake of yet another assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. Ironically, many Republicans attribute a hefty chunk of the blame for this violent incident directly to her and her toxic rhetoric. It seems Harris has suddenly developed a fondness for civility, but the question remains: where was that love when her party was hurling insults and threats?

During her appearance on the Spanish-language Chiquibaby radio show—which is undoubtedly a strategic move to woo Hispanic voters—Harris proclaimed that political violence of any ilk is unacceptable. She expressed relief that Trump was unharmed but somehow forgot to acknowledge the role her party’s incendiary statements may have played in inciting violence. Republicans, including Trump himself, have pointed out the hypocrisy in her rhetoric. After all, it’s a tad rich for someone who participated in a circus-like debate to suddenly call for civilized conversations.

Trump’s Truth Social platform became the latest battleground, where he dissected Harris’s statements, noting that her “Communist Left Rhetoric” has crossed the line. He painted a dramatic picture of a society teetering on the edge, claiming that dialogue has devolved into hatred that breeds violence. After all, when political figures liken opponents to dictators, they shouldn’t be surprised when a few errant bullets might fly in their direction.

The suspense escalated when details emerged about the latest assassination attempt, involving a man named Ryan Wesley Routh, who hid in the bushes at Trump’s golf course, armed and waiting for hours. Thankfully, the Secret Service stepped in before the situation escalated further. Trump’s son, Eric, had the gall to point out the absurdity in his father being labeled a threat to democracy while simultaneously having an actual death threat hanging over his head. Public scrutiny of political discourse has rarely been this ironic.

As if things couldn’t get any more convoluted, Democrats have begun calling for better security measures for Trump, yet the majority have remained mum on the need to temper their own fiery speech. President Biden did manage to squeeze in a call for Congress to bolster support for the Secret Service, but what’s really needed is some self-reflection from the left. Who knew the idea of “civil dialogue” could only arrive after a threat to a former president? It appears that Harris might want to rethink her script on civility before she heads out to the next vote-heavy demographic—after all, actions speak louder than words, or in this case, a well-timed radio appearance.
