Kamala Harris Faces Backlash for Prioritizing Fundraisers Over Hurricane Relief Efforts

Kamala Harris has found herself once again wrestling with the reality of her position, and just like a cat in a bathtub, it’s not pretty. Over the weekend, while Hurricane Helene was wreaking havoc across the Southeast, the Vice President was living it up in San Francisco, rubbing elbows at fundraisers instead of focusing on helping the Americans impacted by the storm. After a whirlwind trip, she barely squeezed in a pitstop at FEMA headquarters on Monday with all the enthusiasm of a kid being dragged to the dentist.

Anyone who caught her fleeting appearance wouldn’t blame them if they thought she was cast in a horror movie titled “This Is Not the Right Time.” There she stood, head bowed and eyes glued to her notes, delivering a performance so flat that even a cardboard cutout could inject more passion into the situation. Harris promised the victims all the support they could ever want, only to sound like someone reading a grocery list. One would think she would muster at least a modicum of emotion for those suffering from a natural disaster.

As if that wasn’t enough of a slap in the face to disaster-affected Americans, President Biden was busy playing house at Rehoboth Beach while the storm cleaned up its mess. At least Harris was “on the job,” albeit jet-lagged and mono-toned. Biden’s claim that federal resources were tapped out came during a weekend jaunt, leaving little room for confidence from a nation waiting for leadership. This duo must have thought that attending fundraisers would somehow translate into votes instead of actual help for the constituents facing dire circumstances.

Not content with her lackluster visit, Harris seemed to take a page from the Don’t-Look-At-Us-We-Have-Important-Things-To-Do handbook, bolting from the microphone quicker than a cat scurrying away from a vacuum cleaner. Instead of facing questions—heaven forbid she had to engage with the media—she simply waltzed off after a few minutes of scripted remarks. Maybe the next time a hurricane strikes, a reality show host who has been rallying for actual aid might step in as a better alternative.

Meanwhile, former President Trump was busy making real waves, transitioning from politics to philanthropy by actively helping victims on the ground while also providing some comedic relief with his jabs at both Biden and Harris. Of course, it’s easier to point fingers when you’re not the one holding the lifebuoy. Trump continues to build bridges while Harris appears more focused on, well, a bridge to nowhere. Her social media activity, filled with posts that are less about relief and more about scoring political points, only underscores the absurdity of her administration’s priorities.

In the end, what remains clear is that for Harris and Biden, it seems the biggest disaster might be their public image and the disconnect from the very people they are meant to serve. While they play politics with each other, the actual challenges and cries for help from Americans echo louder each day. Instead of becoming leaders, they continue to masquerade. Maybe next time they could skip the fundraising dinner and take a field trip to a real crisis instead.
