Kamala Harris Struggles in Softball Media Tour Raises Concerns

The Harris-Walz campaign finally broke out of its bunker and sent Kamala Harris into the media jungle, presumably to face questions from tough journalists. However, it quickly became apparent that these appearances were about as daring as a ride on a kiddie merry-go-round. The interview circuit featured friendly faces from networks that love to fawn over her, ensuring she wouldn’t be exposed to any real challenges. In a strategic move aimed at combating the narrative of her being the queen of dodging unscripted moments, Harris opted for the most cushy interviews available. From the depths of MSNBC with Stephanie Ruhle to the giggles and gossip of the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, she was practically screaming, “Look at me! I’m engaging!” Except, she still couldn’t hit the ball when it was thrown right down the middle.

The so-called “interviews” have largely turned into cringe-worthy train wrecks, and among them, her latest chat on “60 Minutes” stands out as particularly painful. Despite her best efforts to pivot away from tough questions and towards feelings and vibes, she continuously found herself confronted with hard-hitting inquiries that left her looking like a deer caught in headlights. One standout moment was when she refused to label Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu as an ally. Instead of straight talk, viewers were treated to an incomprehensible word salad. After Whitaker pointed out that the U.S. gives Israel billions in military aid, Kamala tossed out a disjointed mixture of diplomatic phrases that would make even a seasoned linguist raise an eyebrow.

As Whitaker pressed her on the nature of U.S.-Israel relations, Kamala maintained her evasiveness, desperately trying to link American and Israeli people instead of addressing the entrenched political alliance. It was as if she was attempting to distract the audience with a shiny object while avoiding the real issue at hand. The slapstick antics continued when she was questioned about funding her economic proposals, which are expected to balloon the deficit by $3 trillion. Classic Democrat strategy: tax the rich. When pressed further on actually getting that through Congress, instead of offering a lucid strategy, she harbored on about the imaginary conversations she has with members of Congress, as if that would magically solve her legislative woes.

In what might have been the biggest comedy of errors, Whitaker took a jab at her infamous flip-flopping. He reminded her that her policy shifts were leaving voters dizzy. One moment, she opposed fracking; the next, she was for it. In response, Harris produced a gem of a justification, claiming that her extensive travels over the last four years as vice president somehow accounted for her shifting beliefs. Apparently, sticking one’s head in the sand and hoping voters forget the waffle was her go-to strategy. Rather than addressing her inconsistencies, she opted for the clichés about “listening to folks,” which completely skirted any substantive acknowledgment of her zigzagging policies.

The interview circus took an even more absurd turn when she was challenged about her recent border strategies. Instead of owning up to the poor execution of immigration policies during her administration, she chose to regurgitate a totally unrelated tale about a long-forgotten immigration bill. The blame game went into overdrive as she pointed fingers at Congress and even Donald Trump, hoping that her usual elementary excuses would fly. Whitaker didn’t let up, reminding her that the border encounters quadrupled under her watch, to which she could only muster a weak “It’s a longstanding problem.” Never mind that under the previous administration, the southern border was the most secure it had ever been.

Despite her attempts to charm and distract, Kamala Harris’s recent media tour has only solidified doubts about her readiness for the presidency. The idea that exposing her to friendly journalists could help her campaign is laughable. As her bungled answers pile up, it’s clear that the Harris team might want to reconsider their strategy before sending her out again.
