President Biden’s support among Latino voters is slipping, according to a recent Axios-Ipsos poll. The poll reveals that many Latinos are expressing favor towards tougher measures on illegal immigration, a stance that aligns with former President Donald Trump’s emphasis on border security.
Furthermore, the poll indicates that Biden is losing ground on several key issues that are important to Latinos. On matters concerning the economy, crime, and immigration, a plurality of Latinos favor Trump over Biden. It appears that Trump’s anti-immigrant rhetoric is resonating with a segment of the Latino community, leading to increased support for his positions on these issues.
Despite the Democratic Party’s efforts to appeal to Latino voters, especially with claims that they better represent them, the poll’s findings suggest a shift in favor of the Republican Party on specific concerns such as the economy and public safety. The poll also reveals that a growing number of Latinos are expressing support for initiatives such as building a border wall and deporting undocumented immigrants.
These results are a cause for concern for the Biden administration as they gear up for the upcoming election. With Biden’s support among Latinos dwindling, particularly on issues related to immigration and the economy, there is a possibility that Latino voters may consider supporting Republican candidates come November.
It’s important to note that the poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.6 percentage points and was conducted from March 22-28 with 1,012 Latino/Hispanic adults aged 18 or older in the United States.
