The New York Times, Washington Post, and other media outlets ignored the news about the alleged dissension between the FBI and the intelligence community regarding Hunter Biden's foreign business activities. According to Shellenberger, the intelligence community launched an operation to spread false and misleading stories about Hunter Biden using a hard drive that belonged to him. The drive was seized by the FBI almost a year before the New York Post published its story.
Shellenberger also revealed how former agents worked with Twitter management to spread false and misleading stories about Hunter Biden using a hard drive that was seized by the FBI. They claimed that documents showing his family's foreign business activities were part of a Russian "leak and hack" operation.
The false and misleading stories about Hunter Biden would then be spread by legacy media outlets in the lead-up to the 2020 presidential elections.

Despite the fact that his laptop was seized by the FBI in December 2019, Roth still pushed back, claiming that the platform had reported "very little Russian activity."
The media's decision not to ignore the files came after several news outlets claimed that Biden's computer was infected with Russian disinformation. The claims were based on a discredited and infamous story published by the political website, Politico, on October 19, 2020. It featured a group of former intelligence officials pushing a misleading and false narrative about the origin of his computer.
The story was published to debunk a story by Emma-Jo Morris, who had previously broken the story about Biden's computer in the New York Post. The headline on the discredited article still remains on the site.
Richard Grenell, who was the former acting director of the National Intelligence, criticized the media for failing to ignore the details of the Russian disinformation campaign. He also criticized the New York Times' reporter, Maggie Haberman.

Peter Schweizer, a senior contributor at the conservative political website, published two books in 2018 and 2020 about his investigation into the corruption of the US government. One of the books revealed how Biden and his son traveled to China in 2013 to meet with officials from the Bank of China.
Through his work, Schweizer was able to uncover the extensive foreign deals that the Biden family had been involved in.
The investigative work conducted by Emma-Jo Morris for the New York Post on Hunter Biden's laptop "from hell" caught widespread attention. She and her co-worker Miranda Devine revealed that Biden was closely involved in the businesses of Hunter, and he had a 10% stake in a company that was established by his scion with the approval of high-level Chinese Communist Party officials.
