During Donald Trump’s first term, the sky apparently fell more times than the stock market rose, or so one would think listening to the chorus of progressive doomsayers in New York City. These alarmists, often found wearing their “I’m with her” pins, raged against everything from climate change to economic policy, claiming the president’s every move threatened the world as we know it. Fast forward a few years, and it’s hard to ignore the irony of how little has changed despite their incessant panic.
These progressive prophets of doom seemed convinced that Trump would usher in the apocalypse. The media outlets, bolstered by the cheers of their leftist followers, painted dire pictures of America under a Trump presidency. Every tweet, every cabinet appointment, and every economic statistic was a potential catastrophe in their eyes. Yet here we are, well past the Trump years, and the sky remains firmly above us—a concept that seems foreign to the left.

One has to wonder why anyone continues to listen to the progressive elite who insisted that the end was nigh. Their track record is about as reliable as a weather forecast in the middle of a New York winter—a mix of wild predictions that rarely hold any truth. While the left was busy knitting their doomsday sweaters, the economy actually saw remarkable growth, veterans were prioritized, and foreign policy didn’t go up in flames as they had insisted it would.
If anything, the aftermath of Trump’s presidency should be a resounding wake-up call to the left. A complete retake in 2020 was supposed to wash away the filth of the previous administration, but instead, it has led to a wave of inflation, poor energy policies, and a foreign landscape more precarious than ever. With each passing day, the political landscape proves that these progressive alarmists might not be the best advisors on how to lead a nation.
In the end, listening to those who cried wolf during Trump’s presidency is like taking advice from a toddler who’s convinced that life is a never-ending sugar rush. With the dramatic lack of foresight displayed by the left, it’s laughably clear that their grasp on reality is as lacking as their influence in crafting sensible policy. Conservatives would do well to remember that falling for the progressive narrative only leads to the need for another round of economic bailouts, not prosperity.
