Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is not happy with his fellow House Republicans and is not afraid to let them know it. McCarthy warns that voting against the stopgap spending bill would only give more power to the Biden administration. In an interview with Maria Bartiromo, McCarthy explains that while he understands the frustrations with this administration, a government shutdown is not the answer. McCarthy points out the flaws in a shutdown strategy, stating that shutting down the government would actually give all the power to the administration.

McCarthy brings up some important points about how a shutdown would hurt important causes like securing the border and fighting against wokeism in the Department of Defense. He questions how border agents can effectively argue for border security if they aren’t being paid, and how can they combat woke ideology if our own troops aren’t receiving their paychecks. McCarthy believes that the best approach is to finish the appropriation work and make their case to the American public.
However, not all Republicans are on board with McCarthy’s approach. Rep. Matt Gaetz and a dozen other Republican lawmakers do not support the CR deal. McCarthy is now in a tricky position because he cannot afford to lose more than four votes, considering the possibility of all Democrats voting against it. McCarthy is facing quite the challenge within his own party.
