Far from being a simple episode of internet drama, Melania highlighted the deeper issue of how such mean-spirited actions can cause “irreparable damage.” While discussing O’Donnell’s attack, she made it clear that autism should not be stigmatized, but the insinuation that Barron is autistic was offensive—especially since he is quite obviously not. Her denunciation of O’Donnell’s actions was fierce, calling it sheer malice and underscoring that the attack was motivated not by concern for autism but rather by a personal vendetta against his father.
Naturally, O’Donnell’s attempts to twist her nefarious intentions into a campaign for autism awareness fell flat. Melania was quick to expose the transparent nature of the move, stating that it became painfully obvious that the attack was less about helping others and more about preying on her family because of political affiliation.
