In a stunning display of ignorance and arrogance, Tesla CEO Elon Musk decided to take a swipe at Republican Sen. James Lankford over a border security and foreign aid bill. Clearly, Musk believes he knows more about securing our borders than someone who has actually spent time working on the issue.
The bill in question was the result of weeks of negotiation between Sen. Lankford, Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy, and Independent Sen. Kyrsten Sinema. But that didn’t stop Musk from criticizing it on his social media platform of choice, X. He claimed that the bill’s real intention was to allow illegal immigrants to vote. Can you imagine the absurdity of that? As if we would ever allow non-citizens to participate in our elections!

Sen. Lankford, rightfully irritated by Musk’s uninformed comments, fired back with a dose of reality. He reminded Musk that it is illegal for non-citizens to vote in federal elections. Maybe Musk should spend less time trying to play border expert and more time figuring out how to fix the 2 million Teslas that are currently being recalled. Just a thought.
Speaking of recalls, it’s not surprising that Musk is so quick to criticize others while his own company faces a massive recall of 2.2 million electric vehicles. Apparently, the font on the warning lights was too difficult to read, and a software download is needed to fix the issue. So, forgive us if we don’t think Musk is the best person to be lecturing anyone about border security or any other serious matter.
It’s also worth noting that Musk’s visit to Eagle Pass, Texas, last September was nothing more than a publicity stunt. Sure, he documented his trip on X, but what did he actually accomplish? Did he offer any real solutions to the problems faced by communities dealing with illegal immigration? Or was it all just for show?
In the end, Sen. Lankford’s defense of the legislation was met with criticism from House Republicans, who declared the bill dead on arrival. It’s a shame that instead of working together to find common-sense solutions, we have people like Musk who would rather use their platform to spew baseless accusations and sound bites.
