NBC News recently attempted to pin a narrative on vice-presidential candidate J.D. Vance concerning the Democrats’ oft-repeated “family separation” trope. The network’s host, Kristen Welker, seemed eager to find anything that could undermine Trump’s immigration policies, but in doing so, she ignored a significant reality—the Biden administration’s breathtakingly high number of families permanently separated by the deaths of migrants on their treacherous journeys to the United States.
While Welker pressed Vance about potential family separations during deportations, the real elephant in the room went unaddressed. Joe Biden’s lax border policies have led to the deaths of thousands of migrants, effectively separating them forever from their loved ones. The sad irony is that the very policies promoted by the left are resulting in far greater familial separations than anything that occurred under the Trump administration. A staggering five thousand migrants have tragically lost their lives in jungles, blustery seas, and perilous crossings since Biden took office, a point seldom brought up in mainstream discussions.

Vance deftly side-stepped Welker’s attempts to force him into a corner, ensuring that no soundbites would be ripe for Democratic attack ads. He turned the tables, pointing out that the consequences of Kamala Harris’ policies have left countless children vulnerable to predators like human traffickers and drug cartels. Contrary to Welker’s agenda, he argued that actual border enforcement is critical for protecting not only children but also American citizens, making a strong case that enforcing immigration laws is, in fact, a compassionate and humane approach.
Unsurprisingly, Welker lashed out in frustration after her interview didn’t land her the desired quotes. She tried to steer the narrative back, seemingly clutching at the statistics showing that the Trump administration separated a reported 5,500 families, all while neglecting to connect the dots to the far larger tragedies unfolding under her chosen administration. She failed to highlight that, even if a thousand children remain separated from their parents today, this is a drop in the ocean compared to the thousands who have perished due to Biden’s open-door invitation.
One can’t help but question the priorities of Democrats like Welker, who seem more preoccupied with political points than with addressing the real harm that is stemming from the current administration’s policies. Reports indicate that migrant deaths nearly doubled since 2021; yet, this shocking statistic seems to go unnoticed in the mainstream media narrative, which prefers to broadcast the sob story of illegal crossings rather than the hard, cold data showing the consequences of such migrations.
The absurdity continues as it becomes evident that while Democrats may wring their hands over family separations, the tragic loss of life streaking across the border remains a silent epidemic. Thousands of families are left without mothers, fathers, or children—permanently separated, not because of a policy, but because the consequences of lax border control are indeed deadly. As the hypocrisy of the Democrats comes into sharp focus, one thing becomes clear: if anyone is truly interested in keeping families together, it’s those advocating for a strong, enforced border policy.
