A report by CBS News New York stated that people in New York will have to pass a background check in order to buy antique and ammunition weapons. It is a sad day for those who are law-abiding and love freedom.
This new law will require people who want to buy an antique gun to pay a $9 background check fee. Those who want to purchase ammunition will have to pay a $2.50 fee. It’s just another example of how the government is trying to take away the rights of Americans.
In the beginning, this law was established due to a disagreement between the Supreme Court and the legislature of New York. Following the court's decision, the state's lawmakers passed various gun control measures. It's clear that they're more concerned with pleasing their liberal constituents rather than safeguarding the rights of law abiding individuals.
The Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Second Amendment supporters in the case of Bruen v. NYSP. In a 6-3 majority opinion, Justice Clarence Thomas stated that the right to keep and bear arms should not be restricted.
Democrats in New York state were not able to stand up to the idea of allowing law-abiding citizens to defend themselves. Instead, they've been actively undermining the Second Amendment by holding gun buyback events, blaming manufacturers for the crime rate, and blaming inanimate objects for their actions.
It's no surprise that a federal judge had to block part of New York's gun control law, which banned the possession of firearms in certain places of worship. Law-abiding individuals should be able to protect their communities and themselves just like everywhere else.
Due to the new law, New York residents will have to go through more hoops in order to comply with it. It is a clear example of the government's overreach and is an infringement on the Second amendment. The only people benefiting from these laws are criminals who are aware that law-abiding individuals cannot defend themselves. Democrats should be ashamed of themselves for putting their own constituents' safety above their own.
