The mother of one of the young men accused in the shooting during the Kansas City Super Bowl parade sure did raise some eyebrows with her latest move. Teneal Burnside set up a GoFundMe page, but get this – it wasn’t for the victims of the shooting, it was for her son, the suspected perpetrator. Yup, you heard that right!

Teneal’s son, 23-year-old Lyndell Mays, was arrested and charged in connection to the February 14th shooting that tragically left one person dead and around 24 others injured. Despite the shocking nature of the incident, his dear old mom thought it would be a great idea to ask for money to support her son’s legal battles. Now that’s some audacity right there, folks.
But, hold on to your hats, because it gets even more wild. The fundraiser description claimed that Lyndell was just “going through a tragic time” and needed some support. Tragic time? Really? Last time anyone checked, shooting a bunch of innocent people doesn’t exactly fall under the category of a “tragic time.” Just saying!
And if that wasn’t enough to make your blood boil, Mays had previously faced a disorderly conduct charge and, get this, served time in jail before this whole mess. So, excuse me if I’m not exactly feeling sympathetic for this poor guy who “shouldn’t have done that. Just being stupid,” as the police report quoted him saying. Yeah, no kidding!
Not to worry though, because GoFundMe stepped in and shut down the whole thing faster than you can say “cash grab.” It turns out the website has a little known policy that prohibits raising money for the legal defense of alleged violent crimes. Who knew, right? But hey, at least some common sense prevailed in the end.
In the grand scheme of things, it’s pretty clear that the real victims in this whole mess are those who were caught in the crossfire during what was supposed to be a joyous celebration. So, maybe next time Teneal Burnside decides to set up a fundraiser, she might want to consider standing up for the actual victims instead of defending the person responsible for the chaos. Just a thought!
