Sean Duffy Named Transportation Secretary by Trump

After a brief stint in reality television that led him to meet his wife, Sean Duffy traded his TV stardom for duty in the political arena, serving as the district attorney in Wisconsin from 2002 to 2010. Following his tenure as a prosecuting attorney, Duffy made a successful leap into the political spotlight, becoming Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District representative in 2010. He held court in that congressional seat for the better part of the decade until stepping down in 2019 to devote time to his daughter with Down syndrome. Since then, he has co-hosted a show on Fox Business with his wife, Rachel Campos-Duffy, further solidifying their brand as a conservative power couple.

His recent pick by Trump for the position of transportation secretary certainly raises a few eyebrows, especially since he is the second Fox News contributor to be tapped for a Cabinet role. This bold move was announced on Trump’s Truth Social platform, which is quickly becoming the go-to stage for significant announcements in the post-presidency landscape. One has to wonder if Duffy was voted “most likely to be a Cabinet member” in some exclusive Fox News yearbook, given the current trend.

According to Trump, Duffy is set to prioritize a blend of qualities such as Excellence, Competence, Competitiveness, and yes, even Beauty, as he embarks on the ambitious task of revamping America’s infrastructure. The former president has promised improvements to highways, bridges, and airports, while also committing to enhance port operations—all without putting national security in the backseat. And if Duffy’s plans pan out, the skies might just get a little clearer as he aims to eliminate DEI initiatives for pilots and air traffic controllers, proving that political correctness has no place in the cockpit.

Trump, never one to shy away from a little family love, gave a substantial nod to Rachel Campos-Duffy, describing her, and by extension Sean, as a mighty force on Fox News. It doesn’t hurt that Sean is also a proud father of nine. This family focus could play a pivotal role in shaping Duffy’s policies, emphasizing the need for families to travel safely and with peace of mind. Perhaps this recognition of family values is just one more reason why Duffy is poised to help usher in what Trump describes as “The Golden Age of Travel,” a slogan that undoubtedly sounds catchy but may raise expectations sky-high.

While Duffy’s selection is bound to rile up the usual suspects on the left, in-house congressional experience gives him a leg-up on what could otherwise be a contentious nomination process, especially when compared to nominees like former Rep. Matt Gaetz, who seems to invite intrigue at every turn. Should Duffy sail through the confirmation process, he would replace outgoing Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who’s had quite a ride of his own. Given that Duffy has long been a staunch ally of Trump, it’s safe to say he’s ready to hit the ground running—whether it’s on asphalt or tarmac.
