Lara, a multi-talented woman who is a former television producer and the host of a podcast called The Right View, recently released a single, a cover of Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down.” However, the company that owns a Times Square billboard where an advertisement for the single might appear has refused to print her last name or promote the song. The reason? Her last name is Trump. The company, TSX Entertainment, sees the word “Trump” as an issue. They even suggested printing her first name, Lara, but leaving off her last name.

Hey, @Apple — where is my song??? Why doesn’t my song appear when you search “I Won’t Back Down”??? pic.twitter.com/CugiZggxOY

It’s clear that Lara is being treated differently because of her last name. This double standard is nothing new for the Trump family. The same billboard company that won’t promote Lara’s single was happy to host advertising for Black Lives Matter, Planned Parenthood, and teachers’ unions. Yet, when it comes to Lara, they claim she’s too political.
Even the usual outlets where new music is promoted are treating Lara differently. Amazon is tracking her sales with a different barcode, preventing her from charting on the Billboard charts. Apple Music is burying her song in search results, and Spotify initially didn’t list her song at all unless you searched her full name.
It’s disappointing that Lara is being censored and treated unfairly simply because of her last name. As she said herself, it’s sadly what she expected. The Trump family continues to face extreme hatred and bias, even in their personal pursuits. It’s a shame that politics has become so divisive that it’s affecting every aspect of their lives.
