Senator Ted Cruz has responded to the latest indictment against former President Donald Trump, calling it “an assault on democracy” from the “corrupted and weaponized Department of Justice.” During his podcast, The Verdict with Ted Cruz, the Texas senator accused Attorney General Merrick Garland of being “the most partisan and political attorney general in our nation’s history,” and criticized President Biden for not upholding democracy. Cruz added that the indictment against Trump is “garbage” and a “political attack” on the former president. He called it a “sad day for America.”
Cruz also made allegations against President Biden, claiming that he is linked to a bribery scheme involving a $5 million bribe from a foreign nation. The senator questioned the whereabouts of the millions of dollars that were funneled to at least a dozen Biden family members in a Chinese deal and the million dollars a year that Hunter Biden allegedly received from Burisma, the natural gas company in Ukraine. Senator Cruz stated that if there is credible evidence that the President of the U.S. was personally involved in bribery, full transparency is needed, and the American people deserve to know where their money is going.
Cruz criticized Garland for having a grudge against Trump, linking it to Garland’s failed Supreme Court nomination. While acknowledging Garland’s previous reputation for integrity, the Texas senator claimed that no one has destroyed their reputation in public life more than Garland.

Former President Trump released a video on Thursday following news of his indictment, declaring himself innocent and calling the Biden administration “totally corrupt,” referring to the indictment as election interference and a continuation of the greatest witch hunt of all time. Cruz’s comments echo the sentiment of many conservatives who view the indictment against Trump as a politically motivated attack.
