TN Attorney General Stops Biden Plan To Release Migrants Into State

Tennessee’s top legal eagle has uncovered what can only be described as a dastardly plan by the Biden-Harris administration: the mass release of illegal migrants into the Volunteer State. Fortunately, thanks to the strong leadership of Governor Bill Lee and a few other sensible lawmakers, this scheme will remain just that—a scheme hatched in the bowels of federal bureaucracy, swiftly derailed before it could wreak havoc in Tennessee.

Documents revealed through a Freedom of Information Act request by Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti show that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) had plans to transport thousands of adult migrants from detention centers in other states and unleash them into Tennessee. This slapdash plan was being coordinated with various non-profit groups that have a penchant for sidestepping the law in the name of “immigrant rights.” Ironically, it seems the Biden-Harris administration is more interested in cycling through dangerous criminals than in actually ensuring safety for American citizens.

Skrmetti has certainly pulled no punches, stating that the federal government should be focused on keeping dangerous individuals out rather than releasing them to stalk the streets. This sage advice underscores what many Americans have long suspected: the current administration seems determined to foster an environment rife with crime while ignoring the pleas of citizens demanding safety.

The governor sniffed out this potential disaster back in December 2022 when he learned that the feds were preparing to unload a horde of migrants before the expiration of Title 42, a health order that has thus far helped keep a lid on rampant border crossings. When the federal government ignored their initial FOIA request, it marked a classic display of “don’t ask, don’t tell,” which only compounded the urgency for action. There’s nothing like a little defiance from state officials to remind the federal circus that states have a say in their own safety.

Email correspondence indicates that according to ICE and the Nashville mayor’s office, the plan included logistics for an influx of asylum seekers, alongside the promotion of support groups to help these newly released migrants get settled. Unfortunately, the release of detainees with violent criminal backgrounds was not a minor detail, as the correspondence revealed. Instead of showing a little common sense, the administration appeared all too ready to send murderers, kidnappers, and rapists packing into Tennessee communities, raising serious questions about their priorities.

Despite the plan being halted—thanks to a groundswell of opposition—the fallout continues with reports that over 7,000 detainees were released unchecked from Louisiana facilities. This number raised eyebrows and fears alike as it included some individuals classified as high-security threats. With more than 30 released individuals boasting backgrounds that read like a horror movie script, including homicide and drug trafficking, it’s a small wonder how the Biden administration can sleep at night. Maybe they should try sleeping under a bridge in downtown Nashville—preferably not with the company of those they’ve chosen to release unchecked.

What’s clear is that illegal immigration under the current administration has been unprecedented, dwarfing the numbers one would expect in a sane world. With a staggering tally of 8.5 million encounters at the southern border, plus an additional half a million non-citizens arriving via the White House’s CHNV parole program, it seems that the chaos is only beginning. While the White House may have taken a vow of silence (no surprise there), the people of Tennessee are gearing up to ensure their state remains a sanctuary for law-abiding citizens instead of a welcome mat for criminals.
