Former President Donald Trump recently endorsed businessman Tony Wied for the open seat in Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District. Wied, who received the endorsement after Alex Bruesewitz decided not to run, has since gained more support, including endorsements from members of Congress like Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL). The Wied campaign has also announced positive fundraising numbers, with $700,000 cash on hand just a week after announcing his candidacy.

Wied expressed gratitude for the support from grassroots patriots in Northeast Wisconsin and emphasized the need for a Trump-endorsed America First leader in Washington. The press release from the Wied campaign highlighted that his cash on hand total was nearly twice as much as the next-best cash on hand number in the GOP primary to replace Rep. Mike Gallagher.
Other candidates in the race include former State Sen. Roger Roth and State Sen. André Jacque, who have reported their fundraising figures. Roth raised $381,908 and had $376,938 in cash on hand, while Jacque raised $127,044 and loaned himself an additional $16,000. The lone Democrat in the race, Kristin Lyerly, raised $250,000 from more than 6,000 donors in the first week of her campaign.
The primary for the 8th Congressional District won’t take place until August 13, but the district is considered strongly Republican, as it had an R+10 rating in 2022. Forecasters also rank the race as “Solid” or “Safe Republican.” While the district is a stronghold for the Republican nominee, the state of Wisconsin is considered a battleground for the presidential and U.S. Senate races. Eric Hovde, the Trump-endorsed Republican nominee, is challenging Democratic incumbent Sen. Tammy Baldwin, in a race rated as “Lean Democratic.”
Overall, the political landscape in Wisconsin is heating up, and candidates are gearing up for a competitive electoral battle.
