Former President Donald Trump criticized President Joe Biden’s decision to visit striking United Auto Workers union members in Detroit. In a fiery post on Truth Social, Trump accused Biden of selling out the workers with his support for electric cars and claimed that it was the “Radical Left Fascists, Marxists, & Communists” who controlled him. He suggested that China would benefit from Biden’s policies and accused him of being a “Manchurian Candidate.” Trump also warned that if he is not endorsed by union leadership in 2024 and loses the election, autoworkers will suffer. He concluded by urging Biden to focus on the Southern Border and leave the car industry alone.

UAW President Shawn Fain responded to Trump’s remarks, stating that the union is focused on fighting the billionaire class and an economy that favors the wealthy over workers. Fain criticized Trump and other billionaires for their lack of understanding of the struggles faced by the working class.
The strike by the UAW, which began more than a week ago, has now expanded to include 38 parts distribution facilities across 20 states. The union is seeking significant changes to workers’ contracts, including a 36% pay increase over the next four years. Negotiations between the UAW and Detroit automakers, Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis, have stalled, leading to the expanded strike.
From a conservative perspective, Trump’s criticism of Biden’s visit and his support for the union workers aligns with the belief that Biden’s policies, particularly on electric cars, are detrimental to American interests. Trump’s warning about the impact of not endorsing him in the next election may be seen as a fair expression of concern for autoworkers. However, critics may argue that Trump’s rhetoric against Biden and his claims about China are exaggerated and lack evidence.
