Donald J. Trump has thrown his hat further into the ring of law enforcement by nominating Kash Patel for the FBI director position and Hillsborough County’s own Sheriff Chad Chronister for the Drug Enforcement Administration, taken straight from the playbook of a true law-and-order president. While the left frets about various other distractions, Trump is busy assembling a crack team ready to tackle crime and the infamous opioid crisis plaguing the nation.
Sheriff Chronister has been fighting crime in Hillsborough County since being granted the sheriff’s badge by the then-Governor Rick Scott back in 2017. With re-elections under his belt and three decades of law enforcement experience, he has become a towering figure in the Tampa Bay area. People might argue there’s a certain justice in having a sheriff who knows the ins and outs of local crime named to the DEA. After all, who better to tackle drug enforcement than someone who has spent over 32 years uprooting crime?

If the Senate gives its stamp of approval on this nomination, Chronister will replace the outgoing Anne Milgram, who has held the Administrator role throughout Biden’s term. The irony is rich, given that while the Democrats have prioritised rhetoric over results, Trump is putting forth nominees with real track records of serving their communities. There’s a certain thrill in watching the dynamic shift from the previous administration’s hands-off approach to a potential return to the tough-on-crime policies that defined better eras.
Chronister has stated that he’s “deeply humbled” by the nomination to serve at a national level, which, coming from a sheriff with his credentials, signals a commitment to public service. It’s hard not to admire a man who has spent decades working tirelessly to ensure safety in his community, especially when contrasted with other government officials who seem more intent on virtue signaling than actual governing. The DEA, tasked with enforcing drug laws across the country, could seriously benefit from a no-nonsense approach, particularly when it comes to tackling the opioid crisis—a problem that is wreaking havoc across America.
In a statement, Trump lauded Chronister’s distinguished career and emphasized his proactive stance against drugs and criminal activity, particularly regarding fentanyl, an issue that has reached crisis levels under Democratic leadership. With Chronister potentially leading the charge alongside Attorney General Pam Bondi, there’s hope for a strategic and relentless crackdown on drug trafficking across the Southern Border. The mood shifts from despair to optimism as the focus on securing the nation’s borders and saving lives takes center stage through this nomination. The narrative about tougher laws and protecting American lives is back in vogue, and there’s nothing Democrats can throw at it to derail this momentum.
