Reports highlight that at least a dozen of Trump’s appointees and nominees have been targeted by bomb threats and swatting incidents. Among those threatened are prominent figures in Trump’s new administration. For instance, Elise Stefanik, his pick for United Nations Ambassador, along with Matt Gaetz, who was initially chosen to serve as Attorney General, have found themselves on the receiving end of menacing threats. Other nominees such as Brooke Rollins for Agriculture Secretary and Lee Zeldin, who is slated to lead the Environmental Protection Agency, have also reported similar alarming incidents. The situation escalated when a bomb threat was aimed at Stefanik, revealing how these threats have not just been straightforward but disturbingly serious.
To make matters worse, one of these threats had a notably unsettling twist. A pro-Palestinian-themed message accompanied the bomb threat sent to Zeldin’s family, emphasizing that this harassment may be politically motivated. In Stefanik’s case, she and her family were driving home from Washington for Thanksgiving when they learned of a threat against their residence. Imagine trying to enjoy time with family only to have your safety compromised by such fear-inducing news.
As if that weren’t enough, the Trump transition team has called attention to the nature of these threats, labeling them as “violent un-American threats to their lives.” Beyond the bomb threats, swatting incidents have also been reported. Swatting involves making prank calls to emergency services, leading to heavy police responses at the target’s home. This kind of behavior creates unnecessary panic and demonstrates a serious disregard for the safety and dignity of those involved.
Local law enforcement has sprung into action, visiting the homes of affected nominees and ensuring their safety. Meanwhile, the FBI is on the case, acknowledging the bomb threats and collaborating with local authorities.
