Despite Bailey’s attempts to position himself further to the right of Bost and the backing of right-wing members of the House Freedom Caucus, Bost’s overwhelming fundraising advantage and support from other influential Republicans, including Reps. Jim Jordan and Ronny Jackson, have solidified his position as the favored candidate in the primary race.
The race has become even more heated with Rep. Matt Gaetz’s endorsement of Bailey, which was a personal blow to Bost, given their previous confrontations in the House. With tensions running high and the Illinois primary shaping up to be a nail-biter, the battle for Trump’s support highlights the ongoing power struggle within the Republican party.
