Reports indicate that the U.S. military has been dragged through the mud under Joe Biden’s watch, with many wondering if it has turned into a laughingstock. Enter Donald Trump, who is gearing up with a plan to reverse the tide of “wokeness” that has infiltrated the armed forces. According to The Times of London, Trump is preparing to issue an executive order on his first day back in office that reinstates his earlier ban on transgender individuals serving in the military.
This proposed executive order has the potential to send approximately 15,000 active-duty transgender service members packing. The move would classify them as unfit to serve, and with recruitment goals in all military branches lagging, the timing seems to resonate with Trump’s desire to restore military strength. The former president has been vocal about how high-ranking military officials seem more concerned with diversity, equity, and inclusion than actual combat readiness. In his view, the focus should be back on military effectiveness rather than the latest trends of the social justice warriors.

Trump’s ban appears to be more comprehensive than the one he implemented during his first term, which allowed those already serving as transgender to continue their roles. Under Biden, that order was rescinded, but reports suggest this new initiative would not only affect those currently enlisted but could potentially give the boot to even more established personnel. The cadre of service members wearing rainbows in uniform may soon find themselves on the chopping block.
Though some may argue that such a purge could harm military readiness in a time when recruitment is already struggling, there’s a certain logic to Trump’s approach. The idea is that the military should consist solely of those in peak mental and physical health. When pride events become routine within the ranks, is it any wonder that everyday Americans looking to serve might think twice? Emphasizing excellence and merit is likely to attract motivated, disciplined individuals rather than those more intent on forwarding an agenda.
The Pentagon itself has acknowledged the difficulties in gauging the exact number of transgender service members. As of 2021, roughly 2,200 had been diagnosed with gender dysphoria, but this number could be an undercount. This adds an element of uncertainty to the mix, but when it comes down to a strong national defense, a prudent approach involves ensuring that every service member is ready for the mission ahead, not on potential gender fluidity.
While organizations like the Modern Military Association of America may complain about the proposed ban, claiming it undermines readiness, the reality is any semblance of the military’s mission should take precedence over social causes. Once the military can shake off the shackles of woke nonsense and refocus on its core purpose, recruitment will likely improve. Embracing traditional values and military excellence could very well restore the U.S. armed forces to its rightful place as the pinnacle of global military power.
