Yes, independent journalists may finally have their time to shine, leaving traditional outlets that spent years slinging mud at Trump in the dust.
Since the 2016 election, the mainstream media has taken a wrecking ball to Trump, his family, and every policy that emerged from the White House. Outlets like CNN, MSNBC, and The New York Times have been relentless in their campaigns against the Trump family, often appearing more like a Democrat Party marketing team than legitimate news organizations. The incoming president is apparently ready to remind them that they are not entitled to the front-row seats when real conversations about America’s future take place.

In what can only be described as a refreshing twist, popular figures such as podcaster Joe Rogan and former Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly could see their voices amplified, as they may receive press passes to join the daily briefings. The son of the president, Donald Trump Jr., hinted at this inviting approach, suggesting that influencers and independent reporters may displace the tired faces that have dominated the press briefings for far too long. He raised an intriguing point about why mainstream media, which has shown a blatant bias against the administration, should assume they are the only authority worth hearing from at these events.
While the White House Correspondents’ Association holds some sway over which reporters gain access to these coveted seats, the Trump administration can still dictate the guest list. This sets the stage for an entertaining power struggle as Trump’s team seeks to redefine who gets to ask the tough questions and expose the alternatives. Trump’s last presidency was marked by notable press restrictions against certain outlets, including banning the likes of The New York Times and CNN from off-camera briefings. It begs the question: will history repeat itself, or will this new era see a welcome diversity of thought?
Fox News contributor Will Cain hit the nail on the head when he pointed out the utter lack of credibility that traditional outlets have faced thanks to their biased reporting. The American public appears ready to wave goodbye to the tired narratives perpetuated by these legacy companies, demonstrating they no longer find trustworthy information in the likes of ABC, CBS, or NBC. Instead, they are interested in the insights from those who have earned their respect in their own right—like Rogan and his peers. In a time when trust is at an all-time low for these mainstream outlets, it’s time for the Trump administration to give the mic to the people who actually have an audience, and it could make for some uniquely entertaining—and truthful—press briefings.
