Karoline Leavitt, former White House Press Secretary under Trump, took a welcome break from the daily grind of Washington to unveil some jaw-dropping details about the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). It seems this government agency, rather than using taxpayer dollars for sensible overseas aid projects, has decided to fund some truly bizarre initiatives that many Americans would find downright offensive.
In a grand display, she laid out a financial buffet of cringe-worthy programs that would make any taxpayer cringe. Who knew that a DEI musical in Ireland, costing a cool $70,000, would be on the agenda? Throw in $1.5 million to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in Serbian workplaces, and you’ve got a recipe for outrage. To top it all off, there’s $47,000 going toward a transgender opera in Colombia and $32,000 for a transgender comic book in Peru. Clearly, USAID has mastered the art of funding projects that, apart from raising eyebrows, probably don’t reflect the priorities of regular Americans.

Leavitt’s exposé couldn’t have come at a better time, as President Trump has been on a crusade to eliminate wasteful spending, fraud, and abuse from the federal government. Who better to lead the charge than the tech guru himself, Elon Musk? Musk has taken on the monumental task of running the newly minted Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and, as seen recently, is not planning to hold back. Reports indicate that staff at USAID woke up to the shocking news of their headquarters being temporarily shut down, with inquiries redirected to a special adviser linked to DOGE. It’s safe to say that Musk’s “efficiency” has arrived with a bang.
The saga deepened as Musk announced that Trump had decided to close USAID for good, a bold move deserving of applause from fiscal conservatives. Faced with an agency that appears to have morphed into an institution of progressive absurdities, Trump is sending a clear message: taxpayers’ money should not subsidize cringe-worthy entertainment or ideological agendas overseas. With a 90-day review period mandated by Executive Order 14169, the agency’s days of splurging taxpayer dollars on extravagant nonsense may finally be numbered.
Musk, along with his comrades, like Joni Ernst and Vivek Ramaswamy, is not pulling any punches in their criticism of the agency. If there’s any confusion about the state of USAID, Musk clarified that it’s not merely a case of having a rotten apple in the barrel; the entire barrel needs to be thrown out. Meanwhile, over 600 USAID employees found themselves temporarily locked out, which sounds more like a scene from a reality show than a government restructuring.
With the backdrop of a federal agency that has been accused of misallocation of funds for decades, it’s time for this long-standing relic to face the music. As this governmental shake-up unfolds, it becomes all too clear that the era of frivolous spending is on borrowed time. Adding extra drama to the event, Musk even went so far as to label USAID a “criminal organization.” It’s a bold statement, but considering what’s been uncovered, can anyone seriously argue otherwise?
