Former President Donald Trump did not hold back when he took to Truth Social to blast Oscars host Jimmy Kimmel during the awards show on Sunday night. The former president didn’t mince words, calling Kimmel the “WORST HOST” the Oscars has ever seen. Trump criticized Kimmel’s opening, saying it was that of a “less than average person” trying too hard to be something he’s not. And he didn’t stop there – Trump also took a jab at ABC News host George Stephanopoulos, making the whole room shake with laughter.
But Kimmel wasn’t about to take this insult lying down. During the show, he took a moment to read Trump’s scathing comments out loud to the audience, not forgetting to throw in a sarcastic comment about being “really proud of something.” He then quipped, “Isn’t it past your jail time?” as he continued to roast the former president.
In addition to targeting Kimmel, Trump didn’t hold back from taking aim at the awards show itself, labeling it as a “really bad politically correct show” and criticizing it for being disjointed, boring, and unfair. He suggested that the Oscars should simply hand out awards to those who “deserve” them, hinting that it might bring back the show’s dwindling audience and TV ratings.
This is not the first time Trump and Kimmel have traded barbs. Kimmel previously admitted to losing a chunk of his fans due to his relentless jokes aimed at Trump. The host’s thick skin and quick wit were on full display as he responded to Trump’s latest attack with a well-timed zinger.
The Oscars event itself saw Oppenheimer as the big winner of the night, racking up an impressive seven awards, including the prestigious Best Picture, Actor in a Leading Role, and Actor in a Supporting Role. And while the evening was filled with glitz and glamour, it’s clear that the real show was the battle of words between the former president and the host.
