It’s hard to ignore the irony of Joe Biden’s ineptitude on immigration. The President had claimed he needed Congress to seal the border, as if he were tied up in a bureaucratic straitjacket and had no control over the chaos he induced. Meanwhile, President-elect Donald Trump was busy proving just how ineffective the Biden administration really is when it comes to securing the Southern border.
In a recent statement on Truth Social, Trump announced a groundbreaking agreement with the newly elected socialist president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum. Trump certainly didn’t need any legislative approval to cut a deal that could effectively stop the illegal migration flood gates that Biden has swung wide open. After threatening to impose a hefty 25% tariff on Mexican imports, it appears that Trump’s master negotiating skills are already at play even before he officially takes office.

In his post, Trump described his conversation with Sheinbaum as “wonderful,” stating that she had committed to halting migration through Mexico and into the United States. This could mark a dramatic shift in U.S.-Mexico relations and, most importantly, a serious effort to combat the illegal invasion that has plagued the country. While Biden’s approach leaned heavily on empty slogans and ineffective checks, Trump’s approach yields immediate results—something that has been glaringly absent from the current administration.
Sheinbaum initially attempted to flex her muscles with a condescending letter promising retaliation against Trump’s tariff threats. However, it seems she quickly realized that the U.S. economy exerts a powerful influence over Mexico, sending her into damage-control mode. Instead of maintaining her tough talk, she acknowledged the “excellent” phone call and emphasized the need for increased collaboration on both security and drug prevention. It’s hard not to chuckle at how quickly she shifted gears; clearly, she understands who holds the leverage.
The stark contrast between Trump and Biden couldn’t be more apparent. While Biden and Kamala Harris are busy funneling billions in foreign aid to southern neighbors to address the so-called “root causes” of migration, Trump is demonstrating that results come from strength and savvy diplomacy. Even before he officially takes the reins, Trump is revealing the significant difference of a presidency characterized by resolve and seriousness. This new agreement not only showcases Trump’s skill at negotiation but also sends a clear message: America demands respect and effective solutions, not empty promises.
