In a hypothetical rematch for the 2024 presidential election, former President Donald Trump has widened his lead over President Joe Biden by 2 points from the previous month, according to a Wednesday poll. Trump is now leading Biden 47% to 43%, compared to the 47% to 45% margin in October, according to an Emerson College poll. With 10% of voters remaining undecided, Trump’s advantage increases to 6 points when independent candidates Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Cornel West, as well as Green Party candidate Jill Stein, are included on the ballot, with 7%, 1%, and 1% support, respectively.

Spencer Kimball, executive director at Emerson College Polling, commented, “Last November, Biden led Trump by four points, whereas this November, he trails Trump by four.” The shifting dynamics are notable, with Biden’s lead among women decreasing from seven points to just one point this year. In addition, support for Biden among minorities has plummeted by a total of 26 points since November 2022. The president is also struggling to maintain support among younger Americans, including a 13-point decrease in support from those under 50 and a 16-point lag in the “four-year college graduates” group.
Another recent survey, conducted by The Messenger/HarrisX and released on Tuesday, confirms Trump’s widening lead over Biden. In this poll, Trump’s margin of victory increased from 2 points to 7 points since an earlier version was published on November 1. Notably, nearly half of Trump voters expressed high excitement about the upcoming election, at 46%, compared to only 29% of Biden voters who felt the same.
Biden’s approval rating remains low at 38%, while 50% disapprove of his job performance. Kimball stated, “The president’s disapproval has stayed the same this month, while his approval has dropped four points. The president’s approval is the lowest it has been this calendar year, but similar to what it was this time last year when his approval was at 39%.”
Trump’s lead in the Republican primary has also increased by 5 points, with his support now at 64%. No other GOP candidates have reached double digits. In the Democratic primary, Biden maintains a strong lead with 66% support, followed by self-help author Marianne Williamson with 5% and Rep. Dean Phillips of Minnesota with 2%, while 27% of voters remain undecided.
The Emerson College survey polled 1,475 registered voters nationwide from November 17 to November 20, with a margin of error of plus or minus 2.5%. Neither Trump nor Biden immediately responded to requests for comment.
