President Trump’s latest foray into combatting the threat from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has generated considerable buzz among conservative circles. During a recent discussion with China’s President Xi Jinping, he laid down the gauntlet by proposing an additional ten percent tariff on Chinese goods. His primary motivation? To pressure the CCP into taking genuine action against the flood of illegal fentanyl that has been entering the United States, wreaking havoc on American lives.
The situation with fentanyl is nothing short of a catastrophe, one that could be compared to a nuclear assault on small towns across America. Over the last few years, more than a quarter of a million Americans succumbed to fentanyl overdoses, an alarming statistic that speaks volumes about the CCP’s disregard for human life. Investigations have revealed that China not only subsidizes the production of this deadly drug but actively manages its distribution while censoring domestic information about drug sales. In effect, they protect their own while sending poison to America, all while looking the other way.
Fentanyl isn’t the only issue on the table. The CCP has also established a thriving tobacco industry, with approximately 300 million smokers fueling government revenues through taxes. Although they could choose to curb smoking for their own citizens, they essentially laugh at the health ramifications, all while pocketing the profits. The World Health Organization reports a modest decline in smoking rates in China, but this only reflects their reluctance to adopt comprehensive anti-smoking policies. It seems they’ve mastered the art of maintaining addiction for profit—like holding a wolf by the ears.
However, it’s not just tobacco that the CCP is shoving down the throats of Americans. They’ve introduced a range of flavored vape products into the U.S. market, directly targeting American youth while restricting similar options for their own citizens. With seven Chinese-owned vape companies dominating a significant share of the disposable e-cigarette market, the lack of regulation poses a severe threat to public health. Instead of curbing this behavior, America is poised to make life easier for the very entities that are endangering its youth by potentially banning safer, legal American-made vaping products.

The irony is thick: while China continues to flood the U.S. with dangerous products, the American government might consider actions that worsen the situation. The misguided push to eliminate domestic vaping options can only exacerbate the issue, leaving vapers with the dreadful choice between illegal Chinese goods or going back to traditional cigarettes—a true public health nightmare. The looming ban on flavored vaping products could disproportionately impact communities already facing health disparities.
There’s a stark contrast brewing between the current administration’s lethargic attitude toward the CCP and Trump’s determination to confront this threat. Trump’s focus on enforcing trade policies that hold China accountable for their reckless behavior is a breath of fresh air. As the inauguration approaches, anticipation grows that the era of watching American youth being targeted by Chinese manufacturers will soon come to an end. It is high time for swift and decisive action against those who traffic in the health and safety of Americans, and Trump’s approach is a welcome change in the fight against the CCP’s insidious influence.
