The 2024 presidential race is heating up, and if you’re experiencing a sense of déjà vu from 2016, you’re not alone! It seems like history might be repeating itself as former President Donald Trump gears up for another potential White House bid.
A recent New York Times article has raised the alarm, speculating on a second Trump presidency. The Atlantic has similarly pondered a potential Trump victory, and The Washington Post has even gone so far as to suggest a “Trump dictatorship” is in our future. Talk about a case of the sky is falling!

But hold on a minute, folks! Former Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney is out here sounding the alarm, dramatically warning that a second Trump term would mean “the end of the republic.” Really? Did everyone forget that Trump voluntarily left the White House in 2021, despite questioning the election results? And now, Cheney is just trying to ruffle a few feathers to boost her own profile for a possible independent presidential run. Talk about self-serving!
But wait, there’s more! The media’s freaking out about a potential Trump win, just like they did back in 2015 when some folks realized he could actually snag the GOP nomination. The warning machine is in full swing, folks! Cue the dramatic music.
Here are some interesting parallels between 2016 and now: both Hillary Clinton in 2016 and President Joe Biden currently are about as popular as a skunk at a picnic. Clinton’s favorability rating was hanging out at a whopping 38 percent just months before the 2016 election, and Biden’s current Gallup job approval rating is sitting at a measly 37 percent. Ouch!
And get this: just like in 2016, the key swing states are trending in Trump’s favor. Trump snagged Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin back then, and he’s already leading in hypothetical matchups in those states against Biden. It’s like déjà vu all over again!
Plus, we’ve got some pesky third-party and independent candidates throwing a wrench into things, just like Jill Stein did in 2016. Stein’s back for another round in 2024, and liberal environmental attorney Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and former Harvard professor Cornel West are also causing headaches for the Democrat camp. It’s like a rerun of the same old show!
The similarities don’t stop there. Trump’s also still railing against the Obama/Biden agenda, which he blames for his rise to power. He’s like a broken record with that one! And let’s not forget that whole “outsider against the establishment” shtick that worked for him in 2016. It’s like déjà vu, folks!
