The Florida Republican Party had a rule that stated that presidential candidates had to sign a pledge to support whoever the party's eventual nominee would be. However, according to Michael Thompson, the rule was nothing but a Trump rule.
An individual who is a prominent Republican in the state agreed with Michael Thompson's claims, saying that if the rule was repealed, it would be a big middle finger to DeSantis.
After seeing the rule against signing the pledge as a requirement for presidential candidates, State Senator Joe Gruters came up with a motion that was approved by the state party's executive board. It was a huge victory for Trump and the Republicans in the state. According to Gruters, there was no need for the pledge, and it was a win for the party.
During an interview with Newsmax, Trump said that he would not sign a loyalty pledge, and he noted that he would not be putting his name to any type of pledge. He said that he wouldn't be able to keep his promises to those on the list, and he wouldn't be able to endorse anyone.
Despite the controversy surrounding the rule, Trump is still leading the race for the Republican nomination. With the pledge no longer an issue, it's a huge victory for the former president and the Republicans in the state.
