The last Republican presidential debate turned into a full-on fight as the candidates fought hard to get the attention of the crowd. Every candidate took shots at every other candidate, and it was very hard for the hosts to keep things under control. It goes without saying that conservative experts were not pleased.
Glenn Beck, the conservative host who doesn't hold back, was especially fed up with all the yelling and fighting. In a tweet with the phrase "Fox failure," Beck said that Trump, who wasn't even there, was the real winner of the night. The head of the Conservative Political Action Conference, Matt Schlapp, also made fun of the debaters, saying that they couldn't explain why they were more popular than Trump in the polls.
It wasn't just conservative critics who didn't like it. Many people thought the argument was a "mess" and the worst they had ever seen. People made comparisons, and one person said the night was like an episode of The Muppet Show. Megyn Kelly, a conservative podcast host, said that the judges failed to keep the debaters professional and polite.
Absolute chaos at the GOP debate tonight.
If they were trying to make themselves look like the mature alternatives to Trump…
They've failed.
Instead, it looks like a Fox News ratings meeting. pic.twitter.com/wDP8wrBCRa

Even though there was a lot of chaos, most people agreed on one thing: Trump won the night, even though he wasn't there. People on social media made it clear they would always vote for Trump. One person proudly said, "Our next president is Mr. Donald Trump." Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom even spoke up, which seemed to acknowledge Trump's power.
In the end, it looks like Trump's absence made the Republican presidential candidates less important. It remains to be seen if they can really tell themselves apart from his shadow.
