In a shocking turn of events, a Colorado school district has found itself in hot water after the local teachers union allegedly encouraged teachers to cover up their actions regarding student gender identity surveys. Parents in Jefferson County are outraged and rightly so. It seems that these teachers want to break the law and their union is not only protecting them but actively instructing them on how to hide their tracks. This is a flagrant disregard for the rights of parents and the law of the land.

The Jefferson County Education Association, the very union that should be advocating for quality education and transparency, instead sent an email to its members advising them to use paper and pencil if they choose to conduct these surveys. They even went so far as to tell them to make their notations about students and then dispose of the documents. It’s like a shady detective trying to get rid of evidence before they get caught. This is not how educators should be behaving.
Parents like Denice Crawford are rightfully feeling betrayed and deceived. They entrust their children to the care of teachers, hoping for a safe and nurturing environment. But when teachers break the law and hide behind their union, that trust evaporates. It’s not about being anti-LGBTQ+; it’s about upholding the law and respecting parental rights. Crawford, in an email to all employees, reminded them that such surveys are illegal unless parents have a say. Yet, her own son came home with a survey that asked about his gender identity. This is a clear violation of parental rights and a breach of trust.
Even school board member Susan Miller recognizes the problem. She criticized the school leadership for providing a way to bypass the law and essentially saying it was acceptable. It is not acceptable. The union’s attempt to justify their actions by claiming they want students to feel safe and validated is simply a smokescreen. While the well-being of students is important, it should never come at the expense of parental rights and the rule of law.
This incident highlights a disturbing trend in some school districts where the rights of parents are trampled upon while policies are created to conceal information about students’ gender identities. It’s an affront to parental authority and an alarming abuse of taxpayer dollars. Parents overwhelmingly support being informed about their children’s lives, including issues related to gender identity. Policies that keep them out of the loop only serve to erode the already fragile relationship between parents and their children.
In the end, it is crucial for parents to stand up against these immoral policies and defend their fundamental rights. As Nicki Neily, president and founder of the parental rights organization Parents Defending Education, rightly stated, these policies undermine the parent-child relationship and are being funded with our own tax dollars. It’s time for parents to be vigilant, hold school districts accountable, and fight for their rights in the face of these blatant attempts to chip away at their authority in their children’s lives.
