The White House stands up for President Joe Biden’s statement about inflation, even though it has been discovered that inflation was actually at 1.4% when he took office. They claim that the pandemic caused global inflation by messing up the economy and supply chains. Additionally, they argue that the reopening after the pandemic caused inflation to rise due to increased demand.

Inflation has been an issue for Biden since it started rising in the spring of his first year in office. It peaked at 9.1% in June 2022 before steadily falling, but is still at 3.4% today, much higher than the Federal Reserve’s 2% target. Biden first stated the 9% claim in an interview with CNN and then repeated a version of it to Yahoo Finance.
Republicans, including former President Donald Trump, were quick to highlight the mistake and criticize Biden for his handling of inflation. They believe that Biden’s policies are leading to higher prices, making it harder for the American people to prosper.
