The world of daytime talk shows just got a hefty dose of hypocrisy, courtesy of Whoopi Goldberg and her merry band of liberal co-hosts over at The View. In a shocking twist that sends ripples through the already tumultuous waters of Democratic politics, Goldberg took to the airwaves to hammer Senator Joe Manchin for his refusal to throw his weight behind Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election. As if anyone was waiting with bated breath for her endorsement. Notably, Manchin’s decision stems from Harris’s notorious push to eliminate the Senate’s filibuster in order to enact sweeping federal legislation on abortion rights.
Manchin articulated what many are thinking—scrapping the filibuster would morph the Senate into a hyperactive version of the House, trading civil discourse for partisan frenzy. His warning that such a move effectively turns the Senate into a legislative “House on steroids” didn’t sit well with Goldberg, who jumped at the chance to chime in with her brand of reality television wisdom. Instead of engaging in a thoughtful discussion about the Senator’s concerns, she opted for a chant of “We ain’t endorsing you either!” That remark, delivered with all the dramatic flair of a daytime soap opera, earned her applause from an audience that seems more interested in entertainment than enlightenment.

The fact that Manchin isn’t even in the running for reelection this November didn’t seem to faze Goldberg. Her little jab comes as political analysts predict West Virginia Governor Jim Justice, a Republican, is poised to step into Manchin’s shoes. It’s almost as if Goldberg thinks that her opinions have the power to sway the electoral outcome, which certainly raises eyebrows about who actually cares about what she thinks.
Manchin had previously switched his party affiliation from Democrat to independent, citing a hopeless stalemate in bipartisan cooperation. This move, coincidentally timed with former President Trump’s legal woes, does raise a few questions about his motives, but let’s not let those pesky details get in the way of an entertaining takedown from Goldberg. What’s amusing is that those like her, who champion a lack of compromise, are often the first to vilify anyone who doesn’t toe the party line.
Not to be overlooked, Senator Kyrsten Sinema also weighed in on this abortion kerfuffle, cautioning that scrapping the filibuster to codify Roe v. Wade could establish a path for future Congresses to outlaw abortion altogether—a reality Goldberg and her friends seem blissfully ignorant of. Quite the irony when those screaming for rights today might very well be opening Pandora’s box for disenfranchisement tomorrow. If being short-sighted were an Olympic sport, one might expect to see Whoopi take home the gold.
