College campuses are supposed to be a breeding ground for ideas, but lately, they’ve become hotbeds of anti-Americanism. Case in point: students chanting “Death to America” as if it’s some kind of protest slogan instead of the traitorous statement it is. These students benefit from the very freedoms and opportunities provided by this country, yet they openly call for its destruction. What’s more appalling is that many of them are attending state-funded schools, meaning your tax dollars are supporting their education while they undermine the very country that supports them. This isn’t free speech, it’s an insult to the country, and it should have consequences.
Expulsion needs to be the first step for any student who participates in these disgraceful chants. We're not talking about harmless disagreement over politics or policies — we're talking about students openly calling for the demise of their own nation. A line has to be drawn. College administrators have been far too lenient, cowering behind the shield of "free speech" as if treasonous rhetoric should be protected. Let’s be clear: "Death to America" isn’t an intellectual debate. It’s a direct attack on the nation that guarantees these students the right to speak in the first place. Enough is enough.
State-funded scholarships should be immediately revoked for anyone involved in this kind of behavior. Why should taxpayers subsidize the education of students who wish to see their country burn? Scholarships are meant to reward merit, not undermine national integrity. If a student thinks so little of America that they’re willing to chant for its destruction, then perhaps they can find funding from one of the countries they seem to admire so much. Better yet, let them pay full price or take out loans like millions of hard-working Americans do. The hypocrisy of cashing in on America while hating it is staggering.
Let’s not pretend this is just a “fringe” group, either. Radical anti-American sentiment is becoming normalized on campuses across the country. We’ve seen similar incidents with anti-Israel and anti-police chants, where the left justifies violence or hatred under the guise of activism. The fact is, these are the same students who think America is an inherently evil place, blinded by their own privilege. The danger here is that this rhetoric doesn’t just stay on campus; it seeps into every level of our society, infecting future leaders. By doing nothing, we’re letting these attitudes fester.
Some will cry that expelling these students is a violation of free speech, but freedom of speech isn’t freedom from consequences. Publicly funded institutions have every right to set a standard for conduct, especially when that conduct goes beyond protest and into sedition. Allowing students to chant "Death to America" without any repercussions is a slap in the face to every soldier who has fought for this country, every taxpayer who foots the bill for these schools, and every American who loves their country. There is no room for this kind of extremism in our educational system.
